Urban Delivery Vehicle Development
In a world where sustainability and efficiency are paramount, the global market for urban delivery solutions is ripe for innovation. Canadian engineering and design have stepped onto the global stage with Rapide3, a groundbreaking model in sustainable urban delivery by Gaius Automotive.

Project Overview
Gaius Automotive set out with a bold vision: to disrupt urban last-mile deliveries. To do that they partnered with TSI to launch a revolutionary model of sustainable, green urban delivery. With a focus on the global last-mile delivery market, Rapide was conceived as the inaugural member of a family of novel vehicles designed to reshape the urban delivery landscape.
As the project lead for all mechanical development, TSI delivered comprehensive turnkey services, including design, product planning, development, and systems implementation. Our technical expertise encompassed diverse mechanical and mechatronic activities crucial to the Rapide vehicle’s success. Key areas of focus included vehicle structure development, where TSI engineers designed a robust yet lightweight framework to ensure durability and efficiency. The team also optimized the suspension system to balance comfort and performance, employing advanced simulation techniques to refine the design for urban environments. Additionally, TSI leveraged its mechatronic expertise to develop Rapide’s advanced tilting system, enhancing stability and agility, while an innovative electronic braking system was engineered to provide precise control and safety under varying conditions.
TSI also prioritized efficiency and quality throughout the development process. Early and sophisticated simulation techniques, including vehicle dynamics, impact, and human-factors modeling, enabled iterative improvements without extensive physical testing, saving both time and resources. Data management was equally critical; using SolidWorks ePDM, TSI implemented full lifecycle data strategies that streamlined the design process and laid the groundwork for Gaius Automotive’s ISO certification. This integration of advanced tools and processes ensured a seamless development experience and a high-quality outcome for the Rapide vehicle.
