Introducing the Uplift Project: Making Tank Rides Accessible for All

At TSI, we believe engineering should serve everyone — and we’re proud to announce the successful launch of the Uplift Project, a collaboration with the Canada Tank Museum aimed at breaking down physical barriers and rethinking what’s possible when accessibility is prioritized.

Over the past two years, our team of engineers has been working diligently to develop a fully functional lift system that allows wheelchair users to safely and seamlessly access and ride in an authentic military tank — an experience that has, until now, been out of reach for many.

The project posed a unique set of engineering challenges. We needed to design a system that was not only safe and robust, but also that it needed to sit low enough to the ground to allow wheelchair users to roll in easily without needing to duck or adjust awkwardly — all while preserving full stability and functionality. Balancing compactness with strength required creative problem-solving, rigorous testing, and a custom-built solution tailored to the tank’s design and user needs.

Accessibility and inclusivity aren’t just add-ons — they are essential components of good design. The Uplift Project is one step toward a more inclusive future, where no one is left out of meaningful, memorable experiences because of mobility limitations.

We’re incredibly proud of what this project represents: a tangible, working example of inclusive innovation — and a reminder that with thoughtful design, even the most unexpected spaces can become accessible.

If you’re in the area, we encourage you to visit the Canada Tank Museum and see the lift in action for yourself.

Together, let’s keep building a more accessible world — one project at a time.
